Are there any moms on the birth control patch?

Last month I started the patch. My gyno said to start it the sunday after my next period, but at the time I had just ended my period a few days prior so I started wearing the patch the next day. Would this make it ineffective? I've been feeling nauseous and exhausted for the past few days so I'm thinking I could be pregnant. I don't want to go to my doctor about it or take a HPT unless there is a possibility of it even happening.
